Before the Meeting:
Parking – There is ample free parking around The Greek Club on Edmondstone Street and Besant Street. The area is designated Inner City with a 2-hour limit. The Greek Club also has a fenced free parking area on the corner of Besant Street. It’s rough. Check to see that it is unlocked when you arrive.
Vegetarian Meal Option – A Vegetarian Meal Option of Yoghurt and Fruit is available for vegetarians or those who prefer this option to the Cooked Breakfast of Bacon, Scrambled Eggs & Vegetables. Click on this option on the Newsletter when you book. At the door, ask for the “Vegetarian Meal’ place holder.
Dress Code Hints – As Business Swap is made up of members who are professional employees, self-employed or small to medium business owners, most dress in smart business casual to formal business attire. Formal Business Attire is a suit & tie for men and business suit for women. Smart business casual for men is shirt & trousers, with or without tie, or casual pants & business shirt or polo with company logo. Smart business causal for women is a business style dress or skirt or trousers and a smart top. If unsure of what to wear, ring our resident Image Consultant, Margaret Sims on 0407 137 264 for advice.
What to Bring:
Business Cards – Bring plenty of Business Cards to exchange with members and other guests.
Name Tag – If you have your own business Name Tag, please bring it as it helps when introducing yourself to others.
Elevator Speech – At the start of the Meeting, the President asks each person to introduce themselves with a short 30 second Elevator Speech of who you are, your business name, what you do and how you help your clients. You do not have to stand up but remember that it is a great way to introduce yourself to everyone in the Room.
‘Thought of the Day’ – After your Elevator Speech, you are asked to give a ‘Thought of the Day’. It may be your favourite affirmation, an inspirational saying or a humorous one. There is a prize for the Best Thought of the Day and the choice of winner is totally dependant of what appeals to the judge on that day.
$2 for Heads & Tails – As Business Swap is a non-profit organisation, we raise some funds and have a bit of fun at the end of the meeting by asking all present to put $2 on a plate and then you choose whether to put your hands on your ‘Head’ or your ‘Tail’. It’s a process of elimination decided by the flip of a coin and the winner receives a book or video prize donated by one of the members.
When You Arrive:
Meeting Rooms – Brisbane Business Swap meets in one of 3 rooms at The Greek Club. There is a Notice Board at the top of the stairs with the Venue Room listed for Brisbane Business Swap. Acropolis Rooms 1 & 2 are straight ahead down the hallway and the Olympus Room is to the right just past the main Restaurant.
Registration – As you enter the Meeting Room, there will be a Registration Table where the Business Swap members behind the desk will check your name and take payment details if required. They will ask you for a Business Card so that we have the correct details for a ‘Thank You’ follow-up.
Tea & Coffee – Tea & coffee facilities are available on a separate table. The staff does not serve tea & coffee to the tables: so members and guests need to fill a cup before the meeting and if needed, during a short break after the 5 Minute Speaker.
Toilets – The toilets are situated on the ground floor straight down the main hallway as you enter The Greek Club. When in the meeting, exit and turn right and follow the hallway.
At the End of the Meeting:
All Business Swap meetings end with a positive affirmation. You are not required to join in the affirmation.
After the Meeting:
Networking over Coffee – The Greek Club has the Odyssey Café & Bar where you may continue networking over coffee inside or on the Terrace if you so desire. |
